News from the Guidance Department:.

 

  • Guidance is letting us know about an ACT tutoring opportunity hosted by La Tech University Saturday, March 30th from 8:30 AM - 1:30 PM at the Louisiana Tech Integrated Engineering and Science Building (IESB) See Guidance for more information

  • The George Welch Scholarship applications are due March 21st.  You can stop by Guidance or Mrs. Averitt's room to pick up an application.

  • If anyone is interested in taking drivers Ed come see Coach Osborne in the gym 1-3 periods for information.

  • Dual Enrollment applications are now available for anyone interested in taking a dual enrollment class NEXT year. Any student planning on taking a DE course next year MUST complete this packet. Simply signing up on your course request form will not place you in a DE class. This application is for new students to dual enrollment and students currently enrolled. You may pick up a packet from any of the following teachers: Aswell, Ashley Walker, Gulde, Rawls, Garvin, Eason, Etzel, Harris, Reynolds, and Knox. As a reminder, Ouachita Parish School Board plans on paying for 2 courses per semester for seniors and one per semester for juniors. All additional 3 hr courses are $300 for the 2024-2025 school year. The application deadline is no later than Wednesday, April 3. This includes the ULM online application. Any student who is only taking a course through LA TECH will complete the paper portion only and will complete the online portion in the fall. All of this information can be found in the current dual enrollment packet.

Sports News: 

 

  • Baseball traveled to Captain Shreve yesterday and won 14-2. Zach Simpson led a charge offensively going 3 for 4 with a homer and Carson Hawsey and Drew Anderson added 3 RBIs apiece. They will be opening district play with Pineville at home today, and at Pineville on Saturday

  • Softball will be at the Cedar Creek Tournament this Friday.  They will take on Oak Grove Saturday at 12. 

  • Golf took second overall at Black Bear, Jace Crain shot plus four, Grant Perry shot plus five, Nate Painich shot plus six and Cole Masters shot plus 7! Colton Moore took 3rd in Jv as well! They will back in action on March 18th at Calvert Crossing.Tennis will be at home vs Ruston this afternoon.. 

  • Track and Field was at Sterlington yesterday! They won both the girls and the boys divisions of the Port City Glass Panther Relays.On the boys side medal winners were Silver in the boys 4x800 with Elijah Hall, Mason Johnson, Grayson Deutscher, and David Terry. Avery Lewis with bronze in the 100m dash. Mason Johnson took bronze in the Mile. Our 4x100 relay took third with Avery Lewis, Kedrian McNeil, Kenyon Rodgers, and MJ Freeman. Mason Wright came in second for the 400m dash. Tytan Johnson and Landon Spears took first and second respectively in the 800m run. Kedrian McNeil took second in the 200m dash. Hayden Jameson and Grayson Deutscher took first and third in the 2 mile respectively. Our 4x400 relay took gold with Mason Wright, Tytan Johnson, Isaac Lane, and Remy Moore. Jahvion Pickens took silver in the long jump. Deshun Thompson took gold in the high jump. To round it all off, Jaxson Tally took gold in the Javelin and Colton Brasher added a bronze to the total as well.  For the girls’ side, Charlotte Switzer was top individual point getter on the girls side for the second meet in a row. She took home four gold medals in high jump, long jump, the 400m dash, and the 4x400 relay with her team Dara Lowe, Shelby McCallister, and Kaitlyn Finkbeiner. The 4x800 took silver with Beth Beebe, De’siree Boyett, Ainsten Dunn, and Bailey Rhodes. Gabby Glover took home two silver medals in the 100 and 200m dashes. De’siree Boyett took bronze in the mile. Our 4x100 took silver with Shelby McCallister, Ashanti Lyons, Zakeria Carter, and Gabby Glover. Avery Miletello took bronze in the 300m hurdles. Beth Beebe took silver in the 800m run. De’siree Boyett took first and Ainsten Dunn took second in the 2 mile. Finally, Kahlyn Davis took third in the Javelin.Congrats to all these Student Athletes!!  

  • The State competition for our Powerlifting teams is approaching quickly! These teams will be in Lafayette not this weekend, but the next competing for a state championship.

Club and Organization News:

 

  • Students interested in trying out for Raiders or Rebeline should pick up tryout packets from the main office beginning Monday, March 11th. Tryout days for Raiders are March 20th and 21st at 2:30- 1st floor of Edgewood. Tryout days for Rebeline are April 3rd and 4th at 3:30- 1st floor of Edgewood .Candidates for Raiders should return packets including all documents on the first day of tryouts, March 20th in Edgewood at 2:30. The tryout fee must also be paid by Tuesday, March 19th. Candidates for Rebeline should return packets including all documents on the first day of tryouts, April 3rd in Edgewood at 3:30. The tryout fee must be paid by Thursday, March 21st. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Shepard in room 4206 for Raider questions, or Miss Tubbs in room 4109 for Rebeline questions during 3rd lunch shift or during 6th period only.

  • Powder Puff Football is BACK!! It will be on Tuesday, April 9th @ 6pm @ Rebel Stadium. Buy your tickets now to either participate or to cheer on your friends! Tickets are sold via GoFans. Participant tickets will only be sold through March 20th. Spectator tickets will be sold from now until the night of the game.  Flyers for Powder Puff are posted around campus with the QR code linked to our GoFans page. Find a Student Council member, Cheerleader, or Raider to get the access code to purchase your ticket!

  • Juniors & Seniors are you ready for an Evening of Enchantment? Prom will be Saturday, April 6th. This year we are bringing back the game room with great prizes such as flat screen tv's, speakers, dorm fridges, & more! Tickets are sold via GoFans from now through Thursday, March 21st. Flyers are posted around campus with the QR code linked to our GoFans page. Tickets will not be sold after Spring Break. See Mrs. Jones in room 4208 or Mrs. Nix in room 3105 for  paperwork & access codes for non-WMHS student tickets.

  • The WMHS Jr Civitans encourage you to Rock Your Socks with us as we recognize World Down Syndrome Day, 3/21/24! Why rock your socks on 3/21? Down Syndrome (or Trisomy 21) means that there are 3 copies (instead of 2) of the 21st chromosome which is why we celebrate on 3/21. Wear brightly colored socks, long socks, printed socks, 1 sock...even 3 socks for 3 chromosomes! If you get a chance, stop by Mrs. Beach's room that day so we can take pictures of the awesome socks!
